Création Africa initiative

Engage in the Création Africa initiative by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Embassy of France and the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS). This project aspires to fortify and uplift cultural entrepreneurship in South Africa, Lesotho, and Malawi, offering a holistic approach encompassing mentorship, incubation, training, funding, and networking. Specifically tailored for entrepreneurs in the ideation and early-stage phases, Création Africa is committed to fostering a sustainable ecosystem for cultural entrepreneurship in Africa.

Objectives of Création Africa: South Africa, Lesotho, and Malawi:

  1. Stimulate and support cultural entrepreneurship in the mentioned African countries.
  2. Empower the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) in South Africa, Lesotho, and Malawi.
  3. Facilitate international cooperation, business development, and external investment.
  4. Connect entrepreneurs with peers in Africa and Europe through an immersion program.
  5. Encourage sustainable practices among cultural entrepreneurs.

Requirements:

  • The application is open to entrepreneurs within the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) from South Africa, Lesotho, and Malawi.
  • Applicants must be over 18 years old and residents of the mentioned countries.
  • Motivated individuals committed to completing the entire program (minimum 7 months, including the immersion program).
  • Business project in the ideation phase or early stage in the CCI sector.
  • Possession of a business model and/or proof of concept, even in an early phase.
  • Willingness to actively engage in all program stages and participate in hosted events.
  • Preparedness to travel to designated cities or countries for events or workshops (all travel expenses covered).

Grants and Financial Support:

  • The 12 selected projects will receive financial support in the form of grants from the French Embassy/French Institute.

Phases of the Création Africa Project:

  1. Call for Cultural Entrepreneurs: 14th December to 26th January 2024 (6 weeks)
  2. Mentorship Programme: 12th February to 8th March (4 weeks)
  3. Evaluation and Final Selection: Mid-March
  4. Incubation Phase: 18th March to 31st July 2024 (20 weeks)
  5. Immersion (acceleration) programme: Between the incubation program, running till the end of September.
